Our Organization

Apollo Support and Rescue is an accredited and certified 501c3 non-profit organization, dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs through compassionate care, medical treatment, and adoption into loving forever homes. As one of the only fully staffed rescue facilities in a rural part of Texas—where no municipal animal shelter exists—we serve as a critical lifeline for both animals and people in our community.

Our facility can house up to 150 dogs at a time. While the cost of food, staffing, medical care, and upkeep is overwhelming, we remain steadfast in our commitment to helping an underserved area burdened with limited resources and a high population of stray and abandoned animals.

Beyond rescue, we actively support local pet owners by providing access to pet food, low-cost vaccination clinics, and spay/neuter assistance through our medical request program. Even during a particularly challenging year—marked by rising returns, longer stays, and record-low donations—our dedicated staff and volunteer crew continue to trap and save dogs from remote areas where they wouldn’t survive alone. We are a beacon of hope, offering second chances to animals and support to the families who care for them.

Our mission is to save abused and abandoned dogs & cats in North Texas and give them a second chance at life.
In 2011, our founder and president, Danielle Stewart, picked up a foster dog on her birthday that was in desperate need of help. The dog, Colleen, was pregnant with nine puppies, covered in ticks, and injured from dog fights.

Two weeks later, Colleen had her puppies. Unfortunately, all the puppies were lost but one, and Colleen did not make it. The last puppy was named Apollo, and as the only survivor of his family, he inspired Danielle to start Apollo Support & Rescue so more animals could have the second chance they deserve.

Apollo passed away in 2025 after living a beautiful life with Danielle. Thanks to his incredible story, Apollo Support & Rescue has saved thousands of animals - BIG or small, we love them all!

Our sponsor and supporter list is available on our Sponsors page. However, the list is not fully comprehensive due to evolving partnerships, sponsors preferring anonymity, and resource limits in updating records in real time. We prioritize transparency but acknowledge gaps may occur as we focus on our mission amid these challenges.
The past several years have been devastating. Our Expenses Article says a lot, and in addition displays where our money goes and the deficits we run.

  • Adoption

  • The first step is to browse our Adoptable Pets and find a pet, or pets, that you are interested in possibly adopting.

  • Submit the respective Inquiry / Application Form for a Dog Adoption or Cat Adoption.

  • After your Inquiry / Application is submitted, our team will contact you to set up an interview, followed by a home check, and finally a meet and greet with you and your future pet(s).

  • Once you have finalized your adoption with an Apollo Representative, and the Contract has been completed, you can submit the adoption fee using the Payment Link, and you'll have a new addition to your family.

  • We ask you to thoughtfully consider what kind of pet would fit well in your family now and for the lifetime of the pet. This is a commitment, and these animals are counting on you to be their family for the rest of their life.
Pets that are currently available for adoption can be viewed here.
    Yes! We accept out-of-state adoptions.

      • Midwest - St Louis, MO; Downers Grove, IL;
      • East Coast - Richmond, VA; Phillipsburg, NJ; Latham, NY; and Bloomsburg, PA.

    • DFW Area Pickup

Currently Texas is facing a dog crisis and every shelter and rescue has dogs and cats exceeding capacity like never before.
If we have the resources, we will try to help. Please submit a Community Support Request and we will see what we can do to help.

    Lost & Found

We understand how stressful it is to lose track of a beloved pet. Our Lost & Found page will help you through the process.
We're sure the pet's owner would be pleased to know their family member is safe and sound with you. Our Lost & Found page will help you through the process.
We are not legally recognized as animal control and therefore we cannot pick up the animal. You can bring the animal to us and we will happily scan for a chip but due to space constraints we cannot keep it. We recommend you place the animal on all social media platforms and also fill out a Petco lost dog profile and/or a PawBoost post.

    Donations

Donations are used to provide care and medical treatment for our rescue animals until they are adopted. We supply fosters with all needed supplies, and we also have a facility with three buildings that house 100+ dogs managed by a full-time staff. We fundraise for specific projects/improvements so everyone knows what they are donating to. All Board of Directors members are volunteers.

A breakdown of our expenses, both predictive and crisis-driven, can be found here.
